Year 5 - February 2023

Year five have had a busy start to the year with lots of learning taking place. The blogging team for this blog didn’t have to interview anybody as we are writing down the things that we did ourselves.  In English, we have been writing a narrative about the seaside. Our originally sentence stacking was based on the Anthony Browne book ‘Zoo’ so we chotted for ideas for figurative language to describe a zoo, but for our end of unit piece of writing, we innovated our ideas to write about the seaside. After we had created our paragraphs, we edited using dictionaries to check our spelling and thesauruses to up-level our vocabulary. We also had to re-write and add to our sentences to make them as good as we possibly could. In maths, this half term, we have been learning about fractions. We have learned about simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions, where we had to ensure we found equivalent fractions to ensure our denominators were equal. Year 6 - November 2022

Year six have been occupied this Autumn term with a great deal of learning, in addition to the residential trip to Manor adventure just before the half term break. Working hard, the year five blogging team have been interviewing a group of year six children to discover more about what they have been up to around school and in their lessons. In English, year six have been reading and utilising the book “The arrival” to write and chot (meaning chat and jot) down vocabulary features and ideas for their sentence stacks. They have been focusing a lot on the feeling lens from the writing rainbow (the story they are focusing on is a very sad one) and performed a conscience alley exercise. Chloe said about the conscience alley exercise, “The class thought about the main character and shared lots of ideas for vocabulary about how she might be feeling at certain points of the story.” Freya said, “I really like the sentence stacking lessons because we get to make great paragraphs!” So far in comp

Year 1 - October 2022

This week, our blogging team have been over to the KS1 building and have been interviewing some children in year one. We asked them lots of questions about what they have been learning this term and they had lots to talk about! In English, Year 1 have been learning about little red Riding hood. Sophia told me that she was learning about writing sentences. For example, “The tree fell over.” Christy said she has learnt about capital letters and full stops. Sophia said phonics and reading sounds is fun when rhyming the words together! George was using the writing rainbow, “I like the writing rainbow because it helps me with my work!” These year one children really enjoy English.  In maths, year 1 have been learning about tens frames and counters. We have been learning about tens frames and then drawing it in our book. I enjoy learning about this, George said. Christy says in maths she likes counting to numbers. She said she can count to 20! Lucy said she enjoyed this subject a lot as she
