Year 1 - October 2022

This week, our blogging team have been over to the KS1 building and have been interviewing some children in year one. We asked them lots of questions about what they have been learning this term and they had lots to talk about!

In English, Year 1 have been learning about little red Riding hood. Sophia told me that she was learning about writing sentences. For example, “The tree fell over.” Christy said she has learnt about capital letters and full stops. Sophia said phonics and reading sounds is fun when rhyming the words together! George was using the writing rainbow, “I like the writing rainbow because it helps me with my work!” These year one children really enjoy English.

In maths, year 1 have been learning about tens frames and counters. We have been learning about tens frames and then drawing it in our book. I enjoy learning about this, George said. Christy says in maths she likes counting to numbers. She said she can count to 20! Lucy said she enjoyed this subject a lot as she learnt how to count to 100 (amazing!). They are amazing at maths!

In science, Sofia has been measuring books, pencils and tables with rulers. She enjoyed this lesson a lot as it was fun choosing certain objects to measure.

In topic, year 1 have been learning about history. George said, “I like history because the past is interesting.”

In computing, they were experimenting with colours on the chrome book, typing practice (using dance at typing) and typing colours.

In PE, they have been doing running races against each other. Sofia enjoyed cheering her classmates and friends on. They have also been doing gymnastics inside (learning about different rolls). Christy’s favourite roll was a teddy bear roll. Sophia enjoys doing jumps and rolls (for example, Teddy Bear rolls forward rolls and straight jumps).

In art, year 1 have been experimenting with mixing colours to create new different colours.
