Year 5 - February 2023

Year five have had a busy start to the year with lots of learning taking place. The blogging team for this blog didn’t have to interview anybody as we are writing down the things that we did ourselves.  In English, we have been writing a narrative about the seaside. Our originally sentence stacking was based on the Anthony Browne book ‘Zoo’ so we chotted for ideas for figurative language to describe a zoo, but for our end of unit piece of writing, we innovated our ideas to write about the seaside. After we had created our paragraphs, we edited using dictionaries to check our spelling and thesauruses to up-level our vocabulary. We also had to re-write and add to our sentences to make them as good as we possibly could. In maths, this half term, we have been learning about fractions. We have learned about simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions, where we had to ensure we found equivalent fractions to ensure our denominators were equal. In a

Year 6 - November 2022

Year six have been occupied this Autumn term with a great deal of learning, in addition to the residential trip to Manor adventure just before the half term break. Working hard, the year five blogging team have been interviewing a group of year six children to discover more about what they have been up to around school and in their lessons. In English, year six have been reading and utilising the book “The arrival” to write and chot (meaning chat and jot) down vocabulary features and ideas for their sentence stacks. They have been focusing a lot on the feeling lens from the writing rainbow (the story they are focusing on is a very sad one) and performed a conscience alley exercise. Chloe said about the conscience alley exercise, “The class thought about the main character and shared lots of ideas for vocabulary about how she might be feeling at certain points of the story.” Freya said, “I really like the sentence stacking lessons because we get to make great paragraphs!” So far in comp

Sophia said phonics and reading sounds is fun when rhyming the words together! George was using the writing rainbow, “I like the writing rainbow because it helps me with my work!” These year one children really enjoy English.  In maths, year 1 have been learning about tens frames and counters. We have been learning about tens frames and then drawing it in our book. I enjoy learning about this, George said. Christy says in maths she likes counting to numbers. She said she can count to 20! Lucy said she enjoyed this subject a lot as she

Year 2 - September 2022

Year 2 - September This week, the blogging team have been to interview children in Year 2 Parakeets and Goldfinches. The children had lots to tell our blogging team about what they have been up to in their classrooms so far this term. In English, Year 2 have been learning about homophones in their spelling sessions, in particular, the words cell and sell, bare and bear in addition to their, there and they're. Theo has said his favourite lesson is guided reading because he reads a lot, can read fluently and enjoys the texts that are used in the lessons. The children have also been learning about a story about two trees which are in love, but they can't reach each other as they are too far away. Imogen has said that this was her favourite lesson this week because she was able to publish her piece of writing for display. In maths this week, Year 2 have been learning about their 10 times tables. They have also learnt about subtracting 1-digit and 2-digit numbers in word problems.

Year 3 - September 2022

Year 3 - September Year 3 have had a busy few weeks back in school since the start of the Autumn term. Moving from KS1 into KS2 is a big step for our children: changing the building where their classroom is, being able to play in the junior playground and having a longer day to fit in all of the fabulous learning that is taking place! In English, Year 3 have watched a short film clip called 'Two Trees' and then wrote a story about it, showcasing all of their writing skills from Year 2. In addition, they have watched a short film clip about a cat and an alien - they used this to draw a picture plan and write a story. Benjamin said, "I'm really looking forward to learning more English in Year 3." As well as Kiko saying "In handwriting, we've been practising joins for letters such as l's and n's." In guided reading, Year 3 have been reading a text fixer about a text called Vulture Culture. They have borrowed books from the library and have been
